The Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) has been in receipt of four double cab pickups to support the implementation of field activities within the forest sector. This is part of a project funded by the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID).
The vehicles were acquired at a total duty-free cost of G $26M and represent a part of the approximately 2 million pounds overall support provided to Guyana for implementing agreed critical roadmap activities under the Guyana-EU FLEGT VPA. It is anticipated that the VPA will be initiated in the last quarter of 2018. Guyana would then enter into an implementation phase, prior to the issuance of the FLEGT License.
In attendance were British High Commissioner HE Greg Quinn, Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources, Hon. Simona Broomes MP, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Natural Resources, Mr. Joslyn McKenzie, Commissioner of Forests, Mr. James Singh and Members of the Board of Directors and senior management of the Guyana Forestry Commission. The event was held at Guyana Forestry Commission, Water Street, Kingston, Georgetown on Monday, September 03, 2018.
