Mr. Frank Singh- An Accomplished Humanitarian

Mr. Frank Singh was born and raised in Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara, Guyana, along with his 10 siblings. His family was extensively involved in the milk business and cattle farming. His father, who Mr. Singh highlighted, was well known in the community as the ‘Milk man’. At the age of 14, he migrated to the United States of America. It was there that he became involved in a plethora of careers and volunteer work. At the age of 18, he joined the United States Marines where he served 12 years and attained the rank of Sergeant. After this, he went on to embark on a variety of careers such as Drill Instructor, War Tank Mechanic, and Rifle Marksmanship Instructor.

Mr. Singh later entered the transportation business then became a Real Estate Agent and subsequently a Real Estate Broker. In 1992, He went on to become a Mortgage Banker, then to a Real Estate Developer; a career that he currently does professionally. Mr. Singh has been a member of the Indo-Caribbean Federation since 1987. This Federation was formed with the intention of assisting the Indian people of New York with various issues such as immigration etc. He served as Treasurer for 14 years then moving on to serve on the Board of Directors from 2007 to present.

As a result of his military background, he has gained extensive knowledge that he wishes to pass on. Mr. Singh highlighted that having the opportunity to become a Marine, specifically a Drill Instructor is one of his proudest accomplishments, since it involves a host of intense training and hard work.

He indicated that he is actively involved with the Saraswati Vidya Niketan School, on the West Coast Demerara. He is the President of the Inter-Community Civic Association in New York for the past 10 years. This association has given great service to over 400 of the elderly population. He had recently embarked on a project in Guyana, at the Port Mourant Hospital, which entails the building of a shed for patients of the institution. Mr. Singh stated that Dr. Davendra Radhey brought the situation to his attention, and proposed plans for the hospital shed; as a result, a fund raising activity was held and the project was completed.

Mr. Singh gave recognition to many of his colleagues, to whom he claims he is greatly indebted to for making contributions to the various charities and projects he supports. Although he is of Hindu background, he believes in all faiths. His family usually celebrates Diwali ‘in style’ by lighting diyas and spending quality time together as a family.
