“INVESTMENTS OUGHT TO BE PROTECTED IN GUYANA” – GCCI PRESIDENT

With the recent takeover of the Berbice Bridge Company Incorporated (BBC), President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI), Deodat Indar, implores the Government to create an appropriate environment to facilitate investments in Guyana since it is a driving force for investments.
Government’s takeover of the Berbice Bridge doesn’t bode well for public-private partnership, according to the GCCI president. Therefore, such actions should only occur when all other options have been proven futile. He mentioned that for us to become a regional leader economically, investments ought to be protected.
Indar also highlighted that it is essential to attract investments in other fields, although the oil and gas sector is said to transform the economy. Hence, if we had an economy before the oil and gas exploration, we should still have an economy when the oil leaves.
