More efforts were made to distribute food supplies on Monday to
Venezuelan migrants in the Barima-Waini, Region One area.
This was according to Projects Manager, Civil Defense Commission (CDC)
Anita Wilson-Layne. “The items that we will be distributing this time
is actually through the International Organisation for Migration (IOM)
so we will be distributing 88 food hampers in four communities in
Region One… We would have distributed food supplies a month ago, so
given the timeframe and the amount of the items given, they should be
ready to receive another time.”
Wilson-Layne told the Department of Public Information (DPI) 28
hampers would be distributed to Khan’s Hill, 15 to Kamwatta, 24 to
Smith Creek and 18 hampers to Yarakita, all catering for five-member
families.
She noted that the agency has been able to provide the migrants with
non-food hampers such as hygiene products among other items last week
and is set to distribute cleaning agent supplies such as bleach, soap
and water purification tablets before the end of the month.
According to Wilson-Layne, GDF ranks at Mabaruma will assist the
agency’s efforts to distribute in the various communities.
The distribution is a collaborative effort between the Civil Defence
Commission (CDC) and the International Organisation for Migration
(IOM).
