Juvenile Holding Centre worker honoured by Public Security Ministry

A new tradition has been embraced by the Ministry of Public Security to motivate its staffers. In this regard on Thursday September 27, 2018 it honored its best worker for the second quarter of the year. The honouree is Ms. Shonnette Smith, an ancillary staff attached to the Juvenile Holding Centre. She received a certificate of appreciation along with a monetary award.

Smith’s supervisor, Ms. Naqeeba Zafarali, Administrative Assistant of the Juvenile Holding Centre, pointed out that Smith is always punctual, uses her initiative and never flinched to work beyond the call of duty. She also emphasized that Smith never reported sick, is always willing to function in other roles such nurse, decorator, and cook, whenever the need arises. Most importantly, Ms. Zafarali encouraged other workers to emulate Smith’s outstanding working attitude.

Nine other employees from various departments and agencies who were nominated by the Staff Recognition Committee, also received certificates of appreciation. These are: Meresia Greene of Research Department; Mariea Kissoon of Information Technology; Curt Richards of National Anti-Narcotics Agency; Delroy O’Neil of Administration Department; Wrenesa Thomas of Accounts; Sydney Charles of Police Complaints Authority; Christina Jagmohan of Ministerial Secretariat and Leon Walters of Personnel Department.

Chairperson of the Staff Recognition Committee is Ms. Simone Simon. She congratulated all staff and encouraged them to continue to work towards excellence as the Ministry is the Centre of Excellence.

Principal Assistant Secretary Ms. Shireen Andrews also congratulated and encourage the staff on behalf of the Permanent Secretary.

The Hon. Minister Khemraj Ramjattan offered high commendation to staff members for their high quality of work. He emphasized that staff recognition is critical for the current administration, the Ministry and the country as a whole. He added that the hard work, professionalism and integrity of employees are the qualities that will make Guyana a great country. The Minister urged all staff to continue to strive for excellence in their daily work.
