More than 50 young males from the communities of Block 22 and One-Mile
Extension, flocked the Bayroc Community Centre Ground, Linden to be
enrolled as participants of an introductory electrical installation
course that is being sponsored by the Ministry of the Presidency.
Upon its six weeks completion, the participants will learn the basics
of electrical installation such as circuit building, conduction and
insulation of electricity and very importantly, safety awareness in
the field. They will also be presented with a certificate which they
can use to enrol into an advanced programme.
Facilitator of the programme, Dexter Bellamy noted that the course is
the perfect start to a six months advance course being offered by the
Board of Industrial Training (BIT) or at any technical institution.
Bellamy said the introductory course lays the foundation for a
promising career in the field. “It is important that they realise they
are not electricians but will be considered apprentices. It is a very
good start for an introductory programme that will further direct them
into the requisite advance programmes.”
He lauded the overwhelming response shown by the youths who keep
increasing in their numbers every day. “It is a very good initiative,
every day the youths keep coming, sometimes three and four come one
day and are added,” he related.
Bellamy is hoping that the Ministry of the Presidency continues to
facilitate the programme and widens its scope so that youths from
other communities across Linden can also benefit.
