Public servants get exposure to studies in Dutch Language

Written by

The Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is partnering with the Language Institute of Guyana, located in Prashad Nagar, to conduct a course in the Dutch language.

Seventeen Public Servants, including Foreign Service Officers, are expected to participate in this round which started last Friday, following an orientation programme at the Language Institute.

The course, which will last for 10 weeks, will be conducted by Germa Van Der Shief who was born in the Netherlands and holds a degree from the NHL STENDEN University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands.

Since its re-establishment in 2016, the FSI has been offering Guyanese public servants, the opportunity to study the languages of neighbouring countries so they may better understand the politics, economics and culture of those countries.

To date, the FSI has arranged courses in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, and will soon implement similar arrangements for Portuguese.

So far, more than 300 public servants have taken advantage of the courses offered.
