TOP COP COMMITS TO FURTHER REDUCING CRIME
Commissioner of Police, Leslie James, indicated that some aspects of the Guyana Police Force’s standing orders will be reviewed and citizens were assured that they would be in good hands.
Several boards and higher standards will be developed to ensure functionality of the Guyana Police Force and the continuance of good governance. Systems will also be implemented for errant members to be disciplined and to ensure ranks are motivated. There were also shifts in the hierarchy of the force which aims toward reform and efficiency.
Commissioner James indicated that even though the force faced many challenges, there was still a reduction in crime for the year 2018 when compared to 2017. This was made possible through a collective effort.
The Force received the commendation of Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo, for significantly lowering the crime rate over a period of time and also for increasing the number of lawbreakers prosecuted. He further stated that the country is doing better since reports from the International Human Rights Day indicated that Guyana has been removed from a number of negative categories as it relates to crime.
