GTT Pinktober activities kicked off with the annual tree wrapping exercise. Many gathered at the corner of Camp and Lamaha Streets to show their support for persons battling cancer.   In attendance were First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger; Minister of Public Health, Mrs. Volda Lawrence, Mayor of the City of Georgetown, Her Worship Patricia Green; Wife of the US Ambassador, Mrs. Rosaura Hollaway; wife of Deputy British High Commissioner, Mrs. Shivaun Davidson; and representatives of organizations such as the Guyana Cancer Foundation, PYARG, and Red Cross, all took part in the tree wrapping exercise.

Mrs. Granger reminded persons present of the importance of early detection while commending GTT for championing the cause to raise cancer awareness in Guyana. She began the tree wrapping activity by decorating the first tree with a bright pink banner adorned with the GTT, GCF, GUYOIL and Impressions brand; all of whom sponsored the tree wrapping exercise. Mrs. Davidson and Mrs. Hollaway wrapped the second tree, while Mayor Green and Minister Lawrence wrapped trees of their own.

Pinktober activities continue throughout the month of October with one of the major events, the Walk/Run/Cycle Marathon, slated for October 20, 2018 which is expected to attract 30,000 people. GTT’s Public Relations Specialist, Jasmin Harris, stated “Everyone is touched by cancer, and as such GTT believes it’s our duty to continue to champion the cause with our Pinktober activities, not only by raising the awareness but also getting all of Guyana involved, from corporate to individual involvement, to help raise funds to assistthose battling cancer; our cancer warriors.”

When passing along Camp Street in the avenue between Lamaha to Church Streets, persons will be greeted by the pink banner wrapped trees. GTT, in doing more, encourages all to be a part of Pinktober 2019.
