Court gives new airline permission to use the name ‘Guyana Airways Corporation’

At the start of this year, Colin Abrams a pilot attempted to start a new airline company under the name Guyana Airways Corporation but his operation was hindered. The obstruction came from the Deeds Registry who prevented them from registering under the name. Colin Abrams, chief pilot and chairman of the company decided to take the matter to the High Court with his lawyer’s directions.
The name Guyana Airways Corporation used to be state-owned and was operating under the Government until the company run bankrupt in 2001.
However, Justice Fidela Corbin Ruled that the registrar of Companies failed to follow procedures in their refusal to register the new company. However, the company gained success in their defence to rightfully use the name for their airline company. They are set to host a press briefing today at their headquarters at Barrack and High Streets, Kingston.
