M&CC set to launch City Week at Stabroek Square

The Mayor and City Council is set to launch its City week Activities this evening at the Stabroek Market Square. Starting at 16:00 hours, the main purpose of the launching is to sensitize all Guyana and to get the buy-in from the local communities including private citizens and Businessmen.

City week activities will commence on August 19, 2018 with a church service at the St George’s Cathedral from 07:00 hours. Other activities will include Inter Municipal Games, street fair, health fair and fitness promotion, unveiling of a commemorative stamp, tree planting exercise, career day  and a cultural extravaganza.

On the August 21, 1843, Queen Victoria by letter of Patent, declared the Colony a Bishop’s see. William Piercy was appointed Bishop this made the Parish Church of St. George’s a Cathedral and Georgetown became a City.

Her Worship the Mayor Georgetown Mrs. Patricia Chase Greene and Honourable Minister of State Joseph Harmon will deliver brief remarks.
