“Our aviation sector is moving in the right direction. We are grateful for the commendation of ICAO and it is growing,” Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo announced yesterday morning at the opening of the Air Transport Conference as he delivered his feature address. The newly opened conference is located at the Arthur Chung Conference Center at Turkeyen East Coast of Demerara. The momentous event not only advances us in the aviation sector but propelled us to a 64% compliance, where we increased by  20% according to the standards of the Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The development is anticipated to reach a level of 80% by the year’s end. In attendance, were representatives from numerous countries around the globe including several African nations and Singapore.  The purpose of the historic meeting was to reflect on obstacles in Guyana ’s aviation sector and render useful resolutions as well as discussions surrounding investing in the substantial aviation framework that is greatly needed.  Anette Ferguson, Minister of Public Infrastructure, whose responsibilities include overseeing the Guyana Civil Aviation’s works and development, noted that the meeting is beneficial to Guyana as well as other countries regionally and coincide with the mission of linking countries across the diaspora. “The Government fully supports the aviation sector and this reflected in many ways; the number of bilateral agreements negotiated with other states. Just last December, 21 air services agreements were approved by the Cabinet for signature and many of those agreements are between Africa, European and Asian states.” The theme for the meeting is, ‘Promoting Connectivity for Sustainable Air Transport Development.’ With the recent emerging of Guyana’s oil sector and the advancements in the fields of aviation, Guyana is guaranteed to also see an outstanding boost in the tourism section which will guarantee the collaborations of many more operators and carriers just like the American Airlines.
