Over $19M supplementary approved for rehab of building to house Public Service College classrooms

Written by

Over $19.5M supplementary funding under Capital Expenditure for the
Ministry of the Presidency – Public Service Management was today in
the Committee of Supply of the National Assembly, approved by majority
vote.

The funding is for the provision of additional resources for the
completion of rehabilitation of the building to house classrooms at
the Bertram Collins College of Public Service.

Minister of Public Service, Dr. Rupert Roopnarine said the previous
allocation was inadequate due to unforeseen works needed to ensure the
building was fit for its purpose.

He noted the original bills of quantities did not adequately address
the problems with the building’s foundation, which resulted in a
redesign of the foundation.

The supplementary will take the total investment cost to $112.5M to
upgrade the old Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) buildings located
at Ogle, East Coast Demerara to accommodate the Bertram Collins
College.
