The PPP/C Bartica Local Government Election Team will be presenting its 28 candidates to the GECOM Bartica Office on Nomination Day, September 21, 2018.
This is according to information released by the party today.
Having consulted Barticians in all nine constituencies through either house to house or community meetings, the PPP/C Bartica Election Team has produced a list of nine constituency candidates that reflect gender, youth and experience. Women, and young women, dominate the list of PPP/C proportional representation candidates. In fact of the 28 PR candidates, 15 are female and 13 are male, with 35 percent being under the age of 35 years of age.
Barticians have seen their township go into a slump with the decline of the gold mining, construction and tourism industries. Jobs are very scarce and the cost of living has increased thanks to the imposition of 200 new taxes by the APNUAFC Coalition government.
Bartica known as a lively town is now unusually quiet as people do not have money as they had before under the PPP/C administration. “Business is bad” as the people say.
Despite promises that Bartica will become the model “green” township, the roads have deteriorated, the trade in goods fell between Bartica and the interior and the coast, and electricity woes continue unabated, the PPP/C has claimed. It disclosed too that the Health services are plagued with the shortage of drugs, medical supplies and non-functioning equipment.
“The outgoing APNU/AFC Coalition Mayor and Town Councilors have failed the citizens of Bartica. Wasting large sums of money on projects such as the two recreational parks and the Boulevard when these monies could have been used to fix the township’s roads and help to generate jobs for its citizens,” the PPP/C added.
Moreover, it was noted that the PPP/C Bartica Election Team 2018 commits itself as elected representatives in these Local Government Elections to consult with the citizens of the township on matters that are of great concern to them and to aggressively represent their interests to improve the fortunes of Barticians and the surrounding communities.
