Local tourism organizations, the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) and the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) signed a Memorandum of Understating (MoU) at the launch of the 8th Annual Guyana Restaurant Week held at the OMG Restaurant on Sheriff Street, Georgetown. They plan to promote levels of efficiency and competence through the sector as well as pooling resources with governmental bodies and interacting with other relevant agencies locally, regionally and internationally. The memorandum’s aim is to develop the support and relationship between the two organizations and support sustainable tourism development. The parties are committed to continue supporting the tourism industry and to be active in strategizing and developing action plans that will contribute to sustainable tourism while thoroughly analyzing the value of tourism in all areas.
By doing so they will be able to clearly detect how our local economy can maximize and reinforce the local support and commitment, which includes training.
They have noted that the areas in which they plan on cooperating, will include the manner in which information is accessible and readily available, marketing, record expansion, financial development, capacity development and product and cluster development.
Both organizations enclosed that they will also be launching “Resort Week”, where Guyanese, as well as foreigners, will have an opportunity to experience Guyana’s resorts at an affordable cost. Although still in planning, they have hopes of launching the initiative before the Christmas Season. This is just one of the collaborative works that will be followed by many others to promote tourism in Guyana.
