Seventeen young people are now equipped with the necessary skills to
hit the business market following their graduation from the Financial
Literacy and Small Business training programme.
Delivering the feature address, at the graduation ceremony today, at
the Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue, Project Manager, Basic Needs
Trust Fund (BNTF) Dikedemma Utoh, advised the students to utilise the
skills and knowledge acquired during the workshop to move forward.
“You must do it with the same perseverance, determination and hunger
that you would have demonstrated over the past weeks…our country
awaits industrious young people like you. Youths who are responsible,
dedicated and committed. Those, who are striving to excel and want to
significantly contribute their share to the development of Guyana,”
Utoh said.
The six-week training exercise, which was launched in 2016, covered
areas of self-development, income expenses and budgeting, financial
responsibility, credit and debt issues, decision making and action
planning. During the programme, each participant was tasked with
developing a business plan which will be submitted to the Small
Business Bureau (SBB) for consideration.
According to the Project Manager, the students’ accomplishment of
completing the course is a step closer to achieving their dreams. “For
the acquisition of this certificate is not the end of your journey,
but represents the beginning of another phase of your personal
development,” Utoh noted.
To date, approximately 131 persons have completed the course.
Senior Economic Empowerment Officer, Youth Empowerment Unit, Samuel
Saul, thanked the students for participating in the workshop and
reiterated the call for the graduates to fully utilise the skills and
knowledge imparted during the programme.
Several of the young people said the programme provided a wide range
of tools that helped to spur their ambitions of becoming
entrepreneurs.
