The Ministry of Natural Resources [MNR], in collaboration with its Corporate Business Partners, other Ministries and Non-governmental groups, through its Corporate Social Responsibility Framework will be embarking on exposing youths ages 14-18 from the 10 Administrative Regions. Between August 6th to 30th, 2018 the youths will be able to learn about Natural Resources related activities and skills training within the Local Mining and Extractive Sector. An opening ceremony is scheduled for Monday, August 6, 2018 at the Pegasus Hotel at 10:00 am.

This program will see the apprentices participating in numerous activities including: site visits to protected areas in various regions, mining operations in Linden. They will also receive hands-on-training on the Ministry’s Office Operations, involvement in community activities, and observing Forestry operations and value addition to local wood products and green energy practices to name a few.

Areas of interests identified by MNR Corporate Social Responsibility Frame Work document that will be applicable and beneficial to the Youth Apprenticeship and Mentorship Program will see target groups benefiting specifically from becoming equipped in leadership roles. This will be done through mentorship reorientation and edification of the functions and back-ground to Guyana’s Natural Resources and the importance of sustainable mining and extractive techniques and best practices.

The Youth in Natural Resources Apprenticeship Programme was birthed in 2017 through the vision of Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Raphael Trotman, M.P. and has continued to be a part of the Ministry’s annual work plan.
